Hatton Garden Arrests Made
Almost two months after the devastating raid at Hatton Garden Safe Deposit, police have made a number of arrests.
Hatton Garden Raid – Time to think about a Safe?
Following the daring Hatton Garden vault raid over the Easter bank holiday weekend many are reconsidering how to protect their treasured possessions.
The raid has effected many people and businesses, from private individuals who have lost personal treasures, to craftsmen and retailers in the jewellery trade who use safety deposit boxes to hold their valuable stock. And even those who’s possessions were stored in the vault’s deposit boxes but were not stolen are still not able to access it while police investigations continue.
Safe Deposit Boxes – Are they a thing of the past?
Many banks including Barclays HSBC Lloyds and TSB have decided to wind down their safe deposit box service whilst others such as Metro Bank are increasing the cost by up to 50%. Nat West only offer the derive at a few branches and their is often quite a wait to get one.
The History Of Safes
Contrary to popular thought the history of safes is very interesting, especially to us. The first safe actually belonged to Pharaoh Ramesses II back in the 13th century BC and it was the ancient Romans that first fixed lugs in the safe locks used.
You will see from the excerpt below a basic history of safes, and how they have evolved from the wooden locking safes, to the incredibly secure systems we use in business and at home today.
